Participated in the United Nations AI and Human Development Global Dialogue in Xi’an on August 20–21, 2026

The third convening of the United Nations AI and Human Development global dialogue series brought together policymakers, AI experts, academics, cultural leaders and practitioners to examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping human development, education, culture and society.

On 20–21 August 2026, the United Nations convened the third gathering of its AI and Human Development global dialogue series at Tang Paradise in Xi’an, China.

The gathering was convened under the leadership of United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, in collaboration with the Government of China and the United Nations Secretariat. It followed earlier convenings in Cairo and Mexico City and brought the Asian perspective into a wider global discussion on the relationship between artificial intelligence, human values and development.

The Xi’an programme focused particularly on the growing role of embodied AI and robotics as intelligent systems move from digital interfaces into physical environments. Discussions examined their implications for education, employment, culture, creativity, human relationships, social trust and sustainable development.

Sessions included “AI and Human Civilization: from the Ancient Silk Road to Digital Civilization,” discussions on culture and creativity, and “Embodied AI and Human Development,” which considered how emerging technologies may affect education and the broader sustainable development agenda. Participants also discussed how AI innovation can advance human development while protecting human agency, dignity, cultural diversity and social cohesion.

The gathering included United Nations officials, policymakers, researchers, technology leaders, academics, artists and entrepreneurs from across Asia and internationally. Opening remarks were delivered by representatives including UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Liu Bin and Shaanxi Governor Zhao Gang. The programme also involved experts working across artificial intelligence, education, governance, culture and emerging technologies.
